The Holiday Treelighting is an annual event organized by the Loguen Park Association. Despite the frigid temperatures, the event was a cozy gathering of neighborhood residents and community members. The Red Cross supplied hot chocolate and board member Mike Behnke, provided the Krispy Kreme donuts for those who braved the cold. The ceremony started off with Friends of Loguen Park Association President Tina Romain welcoming eastside residents and introducing city officials, Assemblywoman Joan Christensen, Councilor at Large William Ryan, 5th District Councilor William Simmons (also representing the Mayor) in attendance. The community remembered deceased neighbors, local victims of violent crimes, and lit a candle in remembrance of those lost. As the crowd waited for Santa Claus to arrive, Tina Romain told the children the story of Jermain Loguen and led the group in Christmas carols. The Syracuse Fire Department escorted Santa Claus as he arrived with candy and treats for all the kids.
